ADOPTIONS
We reserve the right to deny adoption to anyone
When we place an animal for adoption, we hope to find a home that will last a lifetime and create a loving bond between pet and owner. You will be required to fill out an application that will enable us to find the right pet for you. We also visit your home to ensure that this will be a perfect fit for both you and the pet. We put a lot of love and time into our animals, and we strive to get the best home possible for them. We apologize in advance if our final decision disappoints you.
Why adopt from Mountains' Humane Society?
Our animals are already spayed/neutered, are current on vaccinations and have been tested for FLA virus (cats) and Heartworm (dogs). We ask for a $95.00 donation for dogs and a $75 donation for cats which includes a free local Veterinarian office visit, a folder of valuable information about your pet, a DVD to help you and your new pet adjust, and a goodie bag of treats and toys. Our adoption donation is quite a bargain if you add up the costs of everything we include.
How to adopt from Mountains' Humane Society?
During the "good weather" months, we have adoption days throughout our mountain communities at which times most of our listed animals can be seen at our mobile adoption unit. Please refer to our adoption dates, locations and times on the Home or Calendar pages of this website.
The first step in our adoption process is filling out an application. You can download our application from this page, just below.

My name is Kiki. I was born on 7/16/07. I am almost all black, except I have a little round white patch right on the center of my chest. I am a timid girl, but once I get to know you and am comfortable with my new home, I am affectionate. I get along with other cats, and although I don't live in direct contact with dogs, when I am around them, I don't mind friendly/calm dogs. If you would like more information about me.

My name is Shirley. I was born May 7, 2008. I am a short hair brown tabby, full of adventure and fun. I love to run and play chase with other kitties and kitty toys.. I adapt well to new situations and am very loving once I get to know you and get comfortable in my new home

Skitter was born 8/25/08. She got her name because she always skitters away when you approach her. Skitter will play with us with toys, and if the other cats are around, she will come to join them. Skitter needs a calm and patient home to bring out the loving little girl hiding inside. She is mostly solid blue, long hair, but has some lighter hair behind her ears. She is very pretty.

Big Guy was born 8/25/08. He looks a lot like his brother, Brave Heart, but his tabby markings are more leopard spotted and he is darker. He was and still is the biggest of his litter. He too, is playful and affectionate, but a bit more reserved than either of his brothers. If you would like to double your fun, consider adopting Big Guy with his brother Braveheart!

|
Braveheart was born 8/25/08 as the runt of his litter, but his attitude and behavior are as big as the rest. Now he looks just as big as his brothers, and is bigger than his sisters. He was always able to keep up, and was the most bold in exploring when they were first able to start toddling around on their own. He likes to play, and will sometimes roll over on his back for a tummy scratch. He is very gentle. If you would like to double your fun, please consider adopting his brother Big Guy too!

Patches was born in May '08. She is what we call a "mutated" tortoiseshell. Patches is also very affectionate and always comes to greet you. She is extremely playful and loves to run around in play. She is a tom-boy in her play, but may calm down as she matures. Patches is very curious and gets into everything, especially if it involves something her foster mom is doing.

Runt was born April 9, 2010. She is a short haired brown/black tabby with leopard spotted sides. She was the smallest of her litter, but the toughest. She loves to explore, has lots of energy and loves to play with anything she finds. When she is tired, she does like to sleep on laps, but when she has the energy she would much rather play. She gets along with other cats and especially loves friendly dogs. She is very affectionate and has a loud purr motor!

Oreo's owners moved out and left her behind. We don't know how long she was left there to die, but she was very thin and weak when she was discovered. Because of her fragile immune system , she also developed demodex which is being treated and is not contageous to other healthy dogs. She has progressed in her health, has gained weight and is a very loving little dog. She is about 1.5 yrs. old and weighs 14 lbs. The vet says she is a Terrier mix. She LOVES people. She is very well mannered and knows basic commands. She is a lap lover, loves to give kisses and her favorite night spot is next to you in bed!

Lilly was born Feb. '09. She was owned by irresponsible people who never spayed her and when they moved, they tossed her outside. Of course Lilly ended up pregnant, and a neighbor took her in. She agreed to keep Lilly, but wanted the kittens aborted. We refused that option and placed her in foster care where she gave birth to 3 kittens the following week. Lilly is an extremely affectionate, gentle loving petite girl, and she talks too!

|
Elizabeth was born Oct. 19, 2009. She is more affectionate than playful and loves laptime with you. She gets along with other cats, but she would be happier being the queen cat of the house and not having to share laps.

Mya is a 4 yr. old long haired Calico. Laid-back, affectionate, loving...that just begins to describe Mya's personality. She purrs almost constantly and is a lap loving companion. Regrettably, her owner had to give her up because she had to move and Mya wasn't welcome in the new home. Mya gets along with other cats.

Ebony was born 4/18/07. She is a petite, timid little girl who needs a patient family to love her.

Petey has a great happy personality. He gets along with other dogs, but we don't know about cats. He is a big boy, currently weighs 70lbs, and will probably grow some yet. His new owner needs to be aware that he will need a secured fenced yard and will also need to be walked several times a day to work off his energy. He is very healthy and strong, yet walks very well on a leash. Petey has a good appetite and loves to eat.

Scarlet was abandoned by her previous owner in Crestline, Ca, left on the streets to be hit by a car or attacked by coyotes. When Scarlet came to her foster home little did her new foster mom know what a special dog she was. Scarlet is the most loving and gentle dog her foster mom has known for a long time. She loves her belly rubbed and just to be near people. In fact she is sitting at her foster mom’s feet while she is writing this. She has no bad chewing habits as she has stayed in her foster mom’s room and not damaged anything. She does love to shred a stray piece of paper now and then. She responds well to calm and happy voices and is timid with loud and angry sounds. She likes to be indoors, but doesn’t mind being outside for short periods of time and loves a long walk. She is a runner so she does need a tall fenced in yard. She likes people and other animals and would do well with another dog as she loves to play. She is house trained and crate trained, but does prefer a big crate and a soft bed she can stretch out on. All she wants is to be petted and give as much love back as she can. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Scarlet will be thrilled. She is a happy and loving dog who deserves to find her perfect forever home.

Petey was born April '08 and was acquired by an irresponsible owner. When he was 8 months old, his owner moved out and left Petey behind, outside, alone. No food, water or shelter from the snow or wild animals. Thankfully, a kind hearted neighbor stepping in to help Petey, He currently weighs 58 lbs. Petey has a very sweet, playful puppy personality, but don't let that fool you, he is very smart and quick to learn in obedience training. He loves other dogs and is great with children, although he doesn't realize his strength at times. Petey's has allergies that the vet said could be anything; food, pollens, people. He "might" have to be on medication for the rest of his life, but if his new owners can take the time to figure out what he is allergic to, it can be avoided. When he has an outbreak, he has constant itching, hair loss in certain places, and ear infections. Petey is looking for a good home that will give him that second chance that he deserves.

Hi my name is prissy and I'm under a year old. I don't want to boast, but as you can see from my picture, I'm quite stunning. I'd like a family with no children, cats or large dogs. I've been spayed and am current on all my shots. If you're into agility, then I'm the dog for you. I know the command jump, can run like the wind, and with my perfect svelte figure, will find everything else a piece of cake. I'm housebroken, and know the command bed (crate). But if you like to cuddle, I am a past master of that, and love to have my neck rubbed. Whopper is my best bud, so maybe you'd like the two of us? A dog can always dream. Please call MHS and arrange a date to meet me.

Hank was found roaming the streets. The vet estimates he was born Oct. '09. Hank loves to play with his toys! He is affectionate and sweet, loves to roll over to have his belly rubbed! He loves attention, so he often paws at you to get it or jumps up like he's a tiny dog. He has shown some alpha aggression with dogs of equal size. He likes to play with cats and smaller dogs, but he is extremely rough, and an injury will likely occur. He graduated basic obedience class where he learned heel, sit, lay down and stay. He also knows how to shake hands. He is very smart and eager to please. He's just an overgrown puppy and needs love, and a home dedicated to spending time with him and continue training him. Experience with the breed would be a plus, and we would like to see him placed as the only pet in the home.

Flourish was rescued straight from the jaws of death. One of our volunteers was driving a mountain road and a coyote ran in front of her car dragging a cat by it's head. She jumped out of her car and gave chase to the coyote. When the coyote realized our volunteer wasn't about to give up the chase, it dropped the cat. Flourish lay there lifeless and bleeding profusely. Our volunteer rushed her to the vet who attended to her head wounds. Luckily none of her wounds were serious. Poor Flourish was so frightened, she was hyperventilating and the vet kept her in a "dark room" to help calm her. The vet estimates that she was born June '08. It took a long time, many months in her foster home to get Flourish assured that she is now safe and sound. We are happy to say that Flourish is a very sweet and affectionate girl who is looking for a home that will keep her inside where it is safe and warm.

Stanley is almost all white except for some orange tabby markings on his head and tail. He has burning orange eyes to match. He is a very sweet young man. He likes to play, yet is affectionate. He has a more timid side to his personality; loud sounds and changes in environment can scare him. He would need a few days to get used to a new home, but once he knows his new home and and family, he attaches very well. Stanley was born 08/05/2010

Saki is a long haired grey tuxedo who's owner can no longer keep or take care of him because of medical problems. He was left in the home with his K9 house-mate for about a year with the landlord feeding and watering, but not much attention past that. He is a loving kitty who is a little frightened right now, and could use a loving home as he remembers in his past.
